film oscars The Oscar Director and Short List Revealed

Hamish Hamilton has been named as the director of the 82nd Annual Academy Awards telecast and according to Yahoo, British-born Hamilton is a first-time Oscar director, but has had his fair share of experience in the ceremonial field. He’s taken on the MTV VMA’s, the EMA’s and even the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

Although the Academy Awards’ viewership has been in a steady decline for many years, the awards show is still the second most-watched U.S. television show after the Super Bowl and is watched in more than 200 countries. Nevertheless, the Academy organizers wisely decided to try to liven up the show by selecting Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin to host the event, in hopes of boosting laughter, intrigue, and ratings.

Academy organizers have also unveiled their shortlist of films that will be duking it out for a best documentary nomination.

The other 13 documentaries up for consideration are:

  • The Beaches of Agnes
  • Burma VJ
  • Every Little Step
  • Facing Ali
  • Garbage Dreams
  • Living in Emergency: Stories of Doctors Without Borders
  • The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and The Pentagon Papers
  • Mugabe and the White African
  • Sergio
  • Soundtrack for a Revolution
  • Under Our Skin
  • Valentino The Last Emperor
  • Which Way Home

The Academy Award nominations will be announced on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at 5:30 a.m. P.T., while the actual ceremony will take place on Sunday, March 7, 2010.
