Remember when MTV was relevant and entertaining? Ken Ober was one of the prominent figures on the network during his stint as host of the game show Remote Control. According to several reports, Ober who was also an actor and producer, has passed away at the age of 52. Yesterday rumors spread like wildfire about whether or not it was true, but unfortunately it is and the former TV personality is no longer with us.
Ober was best known for his hosting gig on MTV’s Remote Control, which lasted from 1987 – 1990. It was a popular trivia show on the network that allowed him to land more hosting jobs with other shows as well. After a handful of programs, his last known position was as a consulting producer on the CBS comedy, The New Adventures of Old Christine and Comedy Central’s Mind of Mencia.
When the news was confirmed that he actually had passed, only a few news outlets actually covered his death besides MTV.com. Where’s the love? This guy was a major part of the MTV generation and his show helped usher in series programs on the network as a whole. Shows produced after Remote Control would feature personalities such as a young Adam Sandler and Denis Leary.
