Matt Damon may be one of the few actors who realize when making a franchise maintaining quality is key. As the star of the highly successful Jason Bourne series he knows that the upcoming fourth installment will have a lot to live up to. MTV recently caught up with the actor and he discussed why it’s really taking such a long time for Bourne to return to the big screen.
The last time we checked, a screenwriter was in place for Bourne 4, and Damon and director Paul Greengrass were all onboard. The biggest conflict with the production of this movie has to do with its story. The Bourne Trilogy is praised as one of the best action/suspense/thrillers of all time, so they can’t take the script lightly.
“Personally, selfishly, we’d all really like to do it,” Damon said. The last thing he wants to do is create an awful fourth chapter to what has been an epic series of films. “But we are really serious about trying to get the story and the script right because the only thing more disappointing than not having another one of these movies is – for us and for movie fans – to make one that isn’t good.”
He’s right on so many levels. It’s easy for people to get excited about the idea of a new film, but when it gets down to the nitty gritty they forget about the actual work that goes into making it. The last film, The Bourne Ultimatum made a killing at the box office and took home three Oscars. There’s a lot of pressure riding on this follow up, so before we jump down their throats for not making the movie quick enough, remind yourself it’s worth the wait.
