The speculation regarding the upcoming sequel to Spider-Man is getting more and more ridiculous by the day. The people close to the film have yet to give us any real confirmation about the villain or any of the new characters. All we know is that a lot of fingers point to Curt Connors aka The Lizard being the featured bad guy, yet a report from Mania suggests a female will take on the webslinger. The woman in question is Felicia Hardy aka The Black Cat aka Rachel McAdams?
There’s a lot to take in with this rumor, but it’s what we’re hearing through the grape vine. The site’s sources are claiming that Raimi and company have begun casting the supporting characters for Spidey 4 and actress Rachel McAdams has already met with producers for the role of Felicia Hardy. Apparently she’s the top contender to play the character who in the comic is a cat burglar, turned lover and ally.
As a fan of The Black Cat, it would be great to see her in a movie, especially to serve as an opposing force in Peter and Mary Jane’s up and down relationship. The main issue here it that it contradicts everything that Raimi has stated in the past about there only being one villain in the new film. He’s stated that he wants to go back to the basics like in the first and second films as opposed to filling the screen with multiple faces just for the sake of doing it.
Since there have been so many strong reports about The Lizard being the one and only villain, that would nix The Black Cat story. They could introduce her in a way that would have her as an ally right off the bat as opposed to a villain, which would add an interesting dynamic to the film. A lot of people aren’t fond of Kirsten Dunst’s portrayal of Mary Jane Watson (including myself) so any new love interest for Peter is welcome. They could have easily pulled that off with Gwen Stacy in the third film, but we know how that turned out.
What do you think about Rachel McAdams possibly starring in Spider-Man 4 as The Black Cat?
