This has been a rough couple of weeks for actor Nicolas Cage. Earlier last month stories surfaced that the actor was broke and filing for bankruptcy and then just last week his father August unexpectedly died. The elder Coppola passed away from a heart attack at the age of 75. Understandably, Cage has decided to back out of his work and future public appearances to mourn his father’s death.
One of the major changes Cage made to his work schedule had to do with an appearance at the New York screening of his latest film, Bad Lieutenant Port of Call New Orleans. He was scheduled to walk the red carpet with co-stars Eva Mendes and Val Kilmer later this week to promote the film, but has since backed out. Instead Cage will use this time to reconnect with his family and grieve over the loss of his father.
The actor and the rest of the Coppola clan gathered to lay August to rest last Thursday on August 29th, just two days after his death. The service was held at the Christ the King Church in Hollywood, California. Coppola was a literature professor at San Francisco State University, as well as the dean of creative arts. He was the older brother of Francis Ford Coppola and Talia Shire and the uncle to Roman, Sophia, and Jason Schwartzman.
Nicolas and his family will remain in our thoughts and prayers.
