Angelina Jolie in Russian Salt Trailer

We finally have our first live action look at Angelina Jolie in the upcoming spy thriller, Salt. Her character is being described as Jason Bourne in a skirt, which I’m not sure is a compliment or a sexist remark but either way it means she’s a bad ass. A high quality Russian trailer has popped up online for the film, and we get to Jolie in all her action glory.

Salt is the film that Tom Cruise was originally attached to star in but he dropped out at the last minute. The studio then decided to give the character a little sex change, and voila Jolie fits in perfectly. The film is directed by Phillip Noyce and is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters July 23rd. The film’s plot centers on a government agent who’s forced to prove her innocence when she is accused of being a Russian sleeper spy. She goes on the run to find out who’s behind her set up, and uses her special ops training to get information.
Granted this trailer’s in another language, but the one thing that breaks every language barrier is action. She is clearly kicking ass here, so the Jason Bourne comparison makes some sense. If only there were more women able to play these types of roles without gender becoming an issue. Do you know of any other female actors who could take on a role originally intended for a man?

OMG!!! I cannot WAIT to see this movie! Angelina has an intensity in her eyes that NO OTHER actress of this generation can pull off….it's that CRAZY/SEXY/MYSTERIOUS/BUTT
KICKING thing that is irresistible to her fans, and also her haters!
I love the action shots of her side-headbutting that guy in the car, and her ricochet off the wall into kicking that guy, and the shot of her jumping off that bridge, HOT! I WANT MORE!!
GO ANGIE! I will be seeing this TWICE!

Only one other actress could pull this off without a hitch, Lucy Lawless (Xena). Too bad she is from New Zealand or either she didn't have the right agents. Her career just fizzled after Xena.

wow. i am officially looking forward to this movie. the trailer looks good and we all know that jolie kicks ass on action movie so this must be really good.
and no, i don't think there's any female actor who can replace and pull off a male role beside jolie.

If Tom Cruise (or another male star) have starred on this picture, it would ended as more of the same.
A female lead give it some edge and Angelina fits perfectly (Thank God they didn't cast Julia Roberts).
Philip Noyce is a skillful director, so Salt looks fun.

I TOTALLY agree with you Geha714, Angelina is the ONLY actress in Hollywood right now that has the IMAGE, the LEGEND, the SKILLS, the RESPECT, and the BUTCH/FEME-FETALE Ability to pull off this role and movie in a BELIEVABLE way. MUCH respect Angie!

Lucy Lawless could have been an A-list star if she wanted to. She turned down a lot of big roles (Wonder Woman, Jean Grey from X-Men, Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings, etc).
