Twilight Barbies – Have You No Shame?

I found something more frightening than Paranormal Activity. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson have been molded into plastic barbies as Bella Swan and Edward Cullen and being sold now in anticipation for their latest release New Moon. I don’t even want to think about the positions you sickos are going to force these dolls into, but know that, yes you should feel guilty doing it.

You can buy Edward now for $24.99 or $49.99 on Amazon. For the life of me I can’t tell why you’re paying $20 more for one Edward Barbie than the other. Can someone explain the difference?

Bella must not be as loved because you can buy her for $24.99 or even $24.97. Is this sexism or vampirism? I’m not sure.

And after all the buzz about Taylor Lautner and all the press about him, why doesn’t he get a doll!? Was his six=pack making Ken feel bad about himself? I know I’m not for this, but if you’re going to do it, at least do it right.

The odd thing about these dolls is that they’re not sold out. They went on sale yesterday and they’re still easy to buy. One would have thought that the Twilight-ers would have bought out every store and torn down the factory by now, but apparently every fan has will have their toy in time for Christmas.

What do you think about Twilight-Barbies?

I think it's great that now the preschool set can act out scenes in a movie of a book that's all about the connection between sex, romance, and violence. And Bella's such a great role model: she dates a guy who may kill her, but she's willing to risk her life anyway because he's so gosh-darn "beautiful". I'm gonna rush right out and get my neice one so she can keep up with her peers in desensitizing herself to sexual violence. After all, since 4 out of 5 girls will experience some form of sexual violence before they're 18, maybe this will help to convince her that most of it is just the way it's supposed to be. And since the book is written for a 10 year-old sensibility, so when she's seven or eight and can read them independently, I can buy her the book. Or hell, I might as well spring for the whole trashy boxed set.

$49.99 is the two doll set. Unbelievable how such a trashy, poorly-written series became popular.

I enjoyed the books….and I enjoyed the movie (and will probably equally enjoy the new one), but I'm just not sure about dolls….seems odd to me. I suppose if they're marketed as strictly collector dolls, then they're fine, but I know that in MY local stores, they're sitting right up with the rest of the dolls that little girls play with and I don't know that I'd like to see a naked Edward doll laying on my 7 year old's floor.

[...] The idea of “Hope for Haiti” stemmed from George Clooney and the MTV Networks, who wanted to immediately jump into action after seeing all the devastation that occurred in the country. It’s not known if Pattinson’s Twilight co-stars Taylor Lautner or Kristen Stewart will make an appearance on the telethon, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they did. They need to tap into that teen audience and their disposable income and encourage them to use their money for something else besides Twilight dolls. [...]
