British actress Carey Mulligan is on a roll this year. She’s receiving rave reviews for her performance in the drama An Education, and she’s currently filming the Oliver Stone film, Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps. With so much going on what else could the young actress have on the horizon? How about a role in a film based on a highly acclaimed script?
According to ScreenDaily, Mulligan has landed a role in the film, This Beautiful Fantastic. It’s being described as a modern fairytale similar to the films Amelie and Finding Neverland. The screenplay for the project was found on The Brit List, the British version of The Black List that we have here in the States. It’s a composition of the best unproduced scripts of the year.
The story for This Beautiful Fantastic centers on frustrated children’s author Bella Brown, who only leaves her obsessively ordered flat for work at the library. Chronically shy, she has no friends, no family and no life until she falls in with Billy, a hopelessly messy inventor who whirls through the library’s carefully balanced world like a shambolic tornado.
The rest of the talent in the cast isn’t anything to shake a stick at either. Mulligan will be joined by Tom Wilkinson, Christopher Eccleston, Mackenzie Crook and Joanna Lumley. Production on the film is scheduled to start next March in Scotland. It looks as if Ms. Mulligan won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. The buzz from her performance in An Education screams Oscar contention, and I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if she was given a nomination. I haven’t heard one negative word regarding her acting yet.
