Poll: Is the Vampire Trend Almost Over?
By Krystal Clark
Did you know that Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant opened in theaters this past weekend? Don’t feel ashamed because neither did the rest of the country. According to our Weekend Box Office report, Vampire’s Assistant came in at a disappointing number 8, bringing in just a little over 6 million dollars in revenue. Is this a sign that any and everything vampire isn’t a sure thing?
With Twilight dominating the box office, and True Blood and The Vampire Diaries dominating TV, has the craze finally peaked? Take our official poll and let us know what you think about the ever present vampire trend.
I will declare that I love True Blood from the top of my head to the bottom of my feet, but everything else I can do without. The majority of these vampire-centric movies and TV shows are directed towards teenage audiences, so studios continue to flood the market with them so they can grasp their disposable income. Since they’re geared towards a younger audience the writing and acting are typically bad and dare I say corny? We get enough of that in media without the help of fangs and pale skin. I’m waiting for this trend to end, and hopefully the commercial failure that was The Vampire’s Assistant is a sign of that.
