Ok Sam Raimi, this is a step in the right direction. There’s been official confirmation that actor Dylan Baker will reprise his role as Dr. Curt Connors in Spider-Man 4. Why is this such good news? If Connors returns there’s a possibility that he will play the villain, because according to the comics the doctor eventually turns into the vile monster, The Lizard.
Over at UGO, they attended a Q&A session following a screening of Baker’s latest film, Trick ‘r Treat. He was asked if he would be returning for the next Spider-Man film and he confirmed that he had just gotten a call about the role that day. He stated that he would be returning, but was coy about how large a presence he would have in the film.
When Dougherty ribbed him about “just appearing in the background” Baker said that, basically, that’s what he’d be doing. It was unclear if they were being truthful or if, in fact, Dr. Connors would become supervillain The Lizard in this fourth entry in the film series. During their riffing, Dougherty used the phrase “co*ktease for another year” as to whether or not we’d see The Lizard.
I really hope that’s not the case, because it would be a waste of time for the actor and the fans. He appeared in both Spidey 2 and 3, and it would only make sense that his story is explored in this film. The constant teases with him and his one arm, and all the mutation talk that took place in the last movie was a huge opening for his character.
If Raimi decides to take the Lizard approach it would be a natural and well received step in the stories progression. I’m personally sick of a perfectly good villain and actor getting the shaft.
What do you think of Baker’s return? Do you think Raimi should make the Lizard the main villain in the film?
