Ridley Scott can easily be categorized as one of the most talented directors of the past 30 years. He’s done it all, and according to several reports his next project may delve into the world of fashion. EW is reporting that Scott is looking to direct a biopic centering on Italian businessman Maurizio Gucci and his wife Patrizia. It will be aptly titled Gucci, and you won’t believe who the director has in mind to play the main characters.
News has been spreading like wildfire that Scott is looking to cast Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role, and Angelina Jolie as his wife. The film will focus on Maurizio and his turnaround of the Gucci empire during the 1980s before he was murdered in a plot executed by ex-wife, Patrizia Gucci. Even though the director has been in contact with both actors off and on regarding the film, neither are officially attached to star.
At the moment, the script is currently under development with Scott and Fox and both Jolie and DiCaprio have projects scheduled at the moment, so even if they did sign on it would be a while before production began. The concept for the film sounds great and the casting would definitely work, I’m just interested in how long it will take for them to nail down a decent script. If done right, this film could be an Oscar caliber piece for everyone involved.
What do you think about Ridley Scott directing a Gucci biopic? Do you think Angelina and Leonardo are good casting choices?
