Could it be true? Could legendary director Wes Craven be back to helm the horror franchise he started almost 15 years ago? Writer Kevin Williamson, David Arquette and Courtney Cox were the only ones ready to return to the series when Scream 4 was first announced. The main star Neve Campbell, and Craven were the most reluctant to participate, but after a few weeks Campbell gave in and now according to Cinemablend so has the director.

The site reports from a very reliable source, that Craven will return to direct Scream 4 for Dimension Films. He would be following in the footsteps of Campbell whose return was announced last month. Although these familiar faces will be back on the big screen, we’re hearing that their roles may not be as big as you think. This fourth film is supposed to be the beginning of a new trilogy, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the old characters sole purpose is to usher in the new ones.

The last horror film Craven directed was 2005′s Red Eye, which I actually enjoyed. It was one of my favorite contemporary Craven pieces next to the original Scream. Hopefully this fourth film will be a good way to finally close the book on these character’s histories forever.

What do you think of Wes Craven’s return to the series?
