Although there are still a lot of unknowns when it comes to making a sequel years after the height of a film’s popularity, the return of a few familiar faces does help. According to Moviehole and Collider, Judge Reinhold and John Ashton have agreed to co-star in Beverly Hills Cop 4.

John Ashton didn’t star in the third movie, but it sounds like he’ll somehow be rewritten back into the fourth one. Although, it’s still unknown whether or not the entire cast is willing to participate in this installment of the franchise (i.e. Eddie Murphy). There is a lot of speculation when it comes to the possible script for the new film.

According to Collider, the studio has hired a new writer for the film and plan on starting anew with the script. This conflicts with the report from Moviehole that claims that screenwriters Michael Brandt and Derek Haas were adapting their script “Dying Day” as the story for the new sequel.

As much as I enjoyed the Beverly Hills Cop movies, it might be best to let them stay in the past. Someone at the studio probably had the great idea of doing this sequel after seeing the last Die Hard movie. If BHC4 does actually make it to theaters, it will probably be a while off. It would be interesting to see how much it would take to have Eddie Murphy star in this movie. And would he be funny? Probably not. On a side note, whatever happened to Judge Reinhold? I’m happy to see he’s still alive and well.

What do you think?
