David Duchovny Wants X-Files 3 in 2012
By Krystal Clark
A while back, there was a story stating that everyone’s favorite pair of extraterrestrial detectives, Mulder and Skully would be returning to the big screen for a third X-Files movie. The sequel to the original blockbuster film entitled, I Want to Believe didn’t fair that well at the box office, which made chances of a follow up seem slim. With one commercial failure and one success, fans want to know if a third film could balance it out.
Check out what Mulder himself David Duchovny had to say on the matter…
According to an interview with The Daily Beast, Duchovny thinks that a third X-Files movie needs to happen, but only if it takes the characters and story back to its roots.
“As far as the X-Files movie I’d like to do next, if we get a chance to do it, would be a return to the heart and soul of the mythology, which is the alien-oriented conspiracy. I think it’s natural for The X-Files to have another movie in 2012, so we’ll see if we get to do it.”
Nice cross over promotion Duchovny. For those of you who don’t know, 2012 is the year the world is supposed to end according to Mayan historians. There’s nothing like using actual fear and paranoia to promote a film. I think it would be a great idea to produce another film if it stuck with the origin story like he said. Something has to bring everything full circle to what made The X-Files such a phenomenon in the first place. I want to see that type of love again. And unlike I Want to Believe, the studio better shell out a decent amount of money for marketing, because that was the biggest contributors the movie’s downfall.
Do you want to see a third X-Files film? Do you think the story should return to its roots?

Well if you'd watched the show then you'd know that the 2012 was already stated, in the show, to be the year the invasion happens. Duchovony knows that it needs to happen then because that's just where the story was already headed.

I'd love to see another X-Files movie with Mulder and Scully– two of the best characters of all time!

Yea dummy the reason he says 2012 is because, if you had watched the show at all, that is when the aliens were supposed to colonize Earth. ALWAYS has been 2012. Chris Carter is a Art Bell/Coast to Coast type person and knew about 2012 before main stream media knew about it. He tailored his alien consipiracy around the 2012 mythology that was building in the early 90's to late 90's. But again I bet you are around 24 or so and NEVER watched X Files as a kid like us folks 6 years older then you.

If they have another, Doggett and Reyes need to be back. Like them or not, they're involved in this, and they are part of the fight. Without them a third movie would be terrible.
It would be nice if Spender and Covarrubias made it in too. Maybe even some ghosts (Krycek, X, CSM, Bill Mulder, Samantha, most importantly Deep Throat). And the rebel aliens need to be there too. Maybe we can see Jeremiah Smith. That would be freaking awesome.
Best possible ending would be Mulder delaying the invasion because William is the only one who can truly, permanently stop them. For it to work properly Mulder and Scully would have to sacrifice themselves, while Doggett, Reyes, and Skinner were left to prepare William.
You know what, why don't they just have me write a script for it?
