Ridley Scott has landed another job, and it will involve him adapting a TV mini-series for the big screen. According to Variety, the legendary director is attached to the project, Red Riding. The film has nothing to do with the fabled tale from your childhood, this story is much more sinister.
Red Riding was a U.K. miniseries that centered on power and police corruption framed around the investigation of the disappearance of several young girls. The setting of the film will be transferred from Britain to the U.S., and will have to get knocked down from its original 5 hour running time. Steve Zaillian is in negotiations to write the script that Ridley Scott will direct from.
The rights to the film were acquired by Columbia Pictures, a studio that Zaillian worked with in the past when he did the rewrite for the Brad Pitt pic Moneyball. Anytime there’s a film about women being taken advantage of or kidnapped, I feel like Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman should be somewhere in the mix. Wasn’t there a time when she was in everything that involved this type of plot? If she pops up in this film I will lose it with laughter.
What do you think of Ridley Scott taking on Red Riding?
