I guess Chris Pine is making up for all those years as a struggling actor, because this guy is about to be in everything! Yesterday, we told you about his negotiations to headline the DJ Caruso film, The Art of Making Money, and now he’s in line to star as the legendary Jack Ryan for Paramount.
According to Variety, Pine is negotiations with Paramount to star as the fictional C.I.A. operative who’s the featured protagonist in author Tom Clancy’s “Ryanverse.” The film series has had many famous faces attached to the character including Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck being the last in 2002. The studio began to stir up buzz of a franchise reboot late last year, but with a younger actor in mind.
Pine is currently in early negotiations for the next untitled Ryan film, but if my memory serves me correct there aren’t that many books left for them to adapt for a feature. With the lack of preexisting material to choose from it’s no surprise that producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mace Neufeld are working with a script draft by Hossein Amini, based on an original concept.
Some people may have a hard time seeing Pine in this sacred role, but I’m actually willing to give him a shot. If given the right material, I think he could rock this part. If anything, he can do better than Affleck in Sum of All Fears, right?
What do you think of Chris Pine taking on the role of Jack Ryan?
