There’s been a serious development on the World of Warcraft movie front. Director Sam Raimi recently told MTV, that the studio has found a writer in Saving Private Ryan scribe, Robert Rodat. A week ago there was some confusion about whether or not the film would be based on the actual game or the novel, “Arthas: Rise of the Lich King,” but Raimi has clarified that WOW will be an adaptation of the video game through and through.

Here’s what Raimi had to say about his adaptation of World of Warcraft:

“We want to be really faithful to the game. We would have our writer, Robert Rodat, really craft an original story within that world that feels like a World of Warcraft adventure. Only obviously it’s very different ’cause it’s expanded and translated into the world of a motion picture.”

The fanbase for World of Warcraft is one of the most dedicated in the gaming community, a fact that Raimi is well aware of. He plans on capturing “the Horde and the Alliance and the mythology that takes place in the game, and the archetypes that the game presents.”

He went on to say, “I think we would try and find touchstones within the game to make it accurate and true and choose one or some of the lands that are portrayed in the game with as much accuracy and authenticity as possible.”

I hope Raimi knows what he’s getting himself into. He sounds like he’s on the right track by bringing on a highly competent screenwriter. With that being said, he better watch his back for those serial gamers. This isn’t Spider-Man, if he ruins this film they will come for him!

What do you think about the new writer for World of Warcraft?
