can bryan singer save the x-men franchise?

Earlier today, we reported that director Bryan Singer was interested in returning to the X-Men film franchise that he jump-started almost ten years ago. Singer directed X-Men, and X2: X-Men United back in 2003, and was scheduled to take on X3: The Last Stand, before he dropped out to helm Superman Returns. That left the franchise in the hands of Brett Ratner, and the series has been in shambles ever since. Now, with a potential return on the horizon, do you think Singer can take X-Men to the next level?

As I stated in my previous post, there are several pros and cons that go along with Singer’s return. We know he cares about the film’s characters, and is more interested in story than action. If he does decide to take on another X-Men property, I think it should be Magneto. He can work his Holocaust history into the film, similar to the opening of the first X-Men movie. He should also explore other mutants who haven’t been touched yet, such as Magneto’s children Quicksilver and The Scarlett Witch.

For some odd reason, I can’t see him backing First Class or Deadpool. Wolverine 2 has potential, but that’s a whole other series that’s been scarred for life.

What do you think about Bryan Singer’s possible X-Men return?
