The man behind the hip hop biopic Notorious has landed a directing gig with Dwayne Johnson. According to Variety, George Tillman Jr. will helm the action thriller, Faster with Johnson attached as the lead. The film will be produced by CBS Films, who originally had Gridiron Gang helmer Phil Joanou on tap to direct.
The script for Faster was written by Joe and Tony Gayton and centers on an ex-convict who is hell bent on finding his brother’s killers. With Tillman now on board to direct, he will also serve as an executive producer, and will bring on his State Street partner, Bob Teitel to co-produce.
Besides Notorious, Tillman directed the drama Men of Honor and my personal favorite, 1997′s Soul Food. This will be his first crack at the action genre, so it will be interesting to see if he has what it takes to produce a decent film. He’s done drama for the majority of his career so it’s time for him to try something new. Johnson on the other hand will be making a much needed jump from his recent family friendly fare, like Race to Witch Mountain and the upcoming The Tooth Fairy.
What do you think of Tillman directing Faster?
