Gold Circle Films is begging for Mercy. The studio has picked up the spec script for the film from writer Chris Sparling, with Pete Safran producing alongside Paul Brooks. Gold Circle recently released The Haunting in Connecticut through Lionsgate and has The 4th Kind starring Milla Jovovich scheduled for a November 6th release through Universal.
The script for Mercy is described as having several twists and centers on a family intent on protecting their dying mother and their individual financial interests from the violent wrath of a religious sect. The project is being fast-tracked and is being eyed for an early 2010 shoot.
Brooks is also executive producing Life as We Know It, starring Katherine Heigl for Warner Bros. Sparling is best known for his work on the upcoming film, Buried. The thriller, now in production, centers on a civilian contractor (Ryan Reynolds) who is kidnapped and awakens to find that he’s been buried alive in the Iraqi desert inside a coffin with only a phone and a lighter at his disposal. Safran, who is also producing Buried, partnered with Sparling once he got a peek at Mercy.
