Horror genre aficionado Sam Raimi has signed on to produce a new supernatural film entitled Refuge. The project has been set up at Mandate, where Rami’s Ghost House Pictures has a production deal. Refuge centers on a remote town terrorized by a Yeti, the mythological creature native to the mountains of the Himalayas.

Up and coming director Corin Hardy will direct from a script penned by screenwriter Tom De Ville. Jason Blum, Nathan Kahane and Steven Schneider will produce. Blumhouse Productions will finance a short film with the same premise as Refuge, in which both Hardy and De Ville will work on. The idea is to offer a teaser that can help Hardy refine his vision even as the script is being developed.

Raimi who is set to direct Spider-Man 4 and the adaptation of the video game World of Warcraft is no stranger to being a producer. Raimi produced all three movies in The Grudge series, 30 Days of Night, the first two movies of The Boogeyman series and is set to produce Priest an adaptation of a vampire comic book.

Your thoughts on the sound of Refuge? Promising or not? Is he the best producer/director in the horror genre right now?
