I say Disney Pictures have lost their natural minds if they believe that they could REPLACE Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean 4. I strongly believe that the prev. director of Pirates Gore Verbinski should return to direct it instead of Rob Marshall. I also want to say that Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley should return to the film because it wouldn’t be complete without them. Just like some of the prev. comments said I believe that Johnny Depp is NOT a replaceable actor especially for Pirates 4. I strongly encourage Pirates fans not to see Pirates 4 if Johnny Depp isn’t in the film.

Funny, how everyone's stuck with Depp all the way. He is a great actor, no doubt, but just like every other actor, he is not irreplaceable. Face it, actors don't make movies. Great scripts and scenes do. Any other actor who looks like Sparrow and can pull off a convincing Sparrow impersonation would do. For all Depp's skill, it was how the actions and the dialogue went with Sparrow that defined the character. I think Jack is awesome because of the things he does in the movies that define him, not because Depp has grown accustomed to acting a seemingly drunken pirate.

Let's see, with someone else playing Captain Jack (or no Captain Jack at all), there would be a modestly OK opening weekend, when all the families who aren't really paying attention would go see the movie. That would be followed by six weeks of empty theaters as word got around. I think they're bluffing, personally, hoping Johnny will hop on rather than let someone else take Captain Jack into oblivion. Didn't work for Davey Jones, doubt it will work for Disney.

I agree that the Pirates movies need Johnny. But Johnny in turn needs a script that's worthy of him and the character he plays. I hope this new film will do justice to both.
