Picture 316 Mickey Rourke Cast as The Ice Man

Ever since Mickey Rourke‘s memorable return to acting in last year’s The Wrestler, he’s been booking jobs left and right. With several projects already in post production, and others currently in development, he’s decided to sign on for another role. According to the NYPost, Rourke has landed the lead in the film, The Ice Man. The feature will be based on a novel about a mafia hitman.

The Ice Man was a novel written by Phil Carlo, that centers on a hitman who murdered more than 200 people during his criminal career. Rourke will star as the cold blooded killer in the film that will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Before Rourke was officially hired Bonaventura wanted to cast Channing Tatum in the lead role. Carlo quickly countered that idea with another choice. “I think Mickey Rourke would really be good. He’s got that sense of danger . . . But it’s not Channing Tatum.”

The background of this character is truly dark, and in my opinion Tatum wouldn’t have been the best pick. Not to sound malicious, but he is not a good actor. He’s growing in his craft, but he’s not at the point where he could handle such material. Rourke is an excellent choice for this and could deliver another strong performance. He’s highly trained, and has the emotional baggage to take this character and story to the next level.

What do you think about Mickey Rourke being cast as the Ice Man?

This role will be tailor-made for Rourke and he'll deliver it with his characteristic intensity, topping everything he's done to date. An exciting development because he brings nuance to the archetypical "heavy".

Not taking anything from Rourke, But James Gandolfini would have been perfect.

I viewed the real interview with Richard Kuklinski and I think casting Mickey Rourke for this part
    is an excellent choice.
His superb acting quality and depth/intensity will no doubt bring out a first class performance
and will award him the next Oscar !
