The live action adaptation of John Carter of Mars will soon begin production, and co-star Lynn Collins recently revealed some of the prep work that’s gone into the film. In a one on one interview with MTV, the actress discussed the look that her “alien princess” character will have in the movie, and whether or not she will be involved in any heavy fight scenes.
According to Lynn, her character Dejah Thoris can be described as “a priestess of science and letters.” In the film she plays the love interest of the human soldier John Carter, whom will be played by her X-Men Origins: Wolverine co-star Taylor Kitsch. Since she will be playing an alien, inquiring minds have to know, what will she look like?
“We’re actually getting into some hair and makeup tests this week to see what the look is like,” said Collins. “It’s really collaborative and really creative and I’m really excited about it.I think they’re going more like a really great tan, like the best-tan-you-can-ever-imagine type of thing.”
Something on the inside told me they weren’t going to make her freakishly ugly. On another note, the majority of the cast will be undergoing some serious athletic training to prepare for the fight scenes they’ll have to perform in the film. Collins and Kitsch recently saw a preliminary run through of one of the sequences, and there’s no doubt in the actresses mind that Taylor’s the perfect fit for this film.
“We went to Pixar and saw some of the workups of some of the fighting that we have to do. I was like, ‘Oh my god, there’s just no guy better for the job. He’s so athletic and wonderful and such a great actor and so positive.’”
Production on John Carter of Mars is set to begin early next year in Utah, and Collins will begin a rigorous training regimen next month. The film is scheduled to hit theaters in 2012.
