The He-Man and the Masters of the Universe film adaptation has been actively looking for a studio home since it was dropped by Warner Bros a while back. According to Variety, Sony has saved the day and is in negotiations to produce the feature. Once the deal is finalized the studio will begin developing the film along with the Escape Artists production company.
Once Masters of the Universe makes its way over to Sony, the studio will recreate the film from scratch. When the project was originally set up at Warner Bros, Joel Silver was attached to produce, but due to creative differences between him and the studio it was dropped. The plot of the developing film will center on the basic elements of He-Man lore. It will focus on a young man and his battle against the evil Skeletor for his mystical homeland, Eternia.
Honestly, I felt more comfortable with them making the film when it was backed by Warners. Sony has a hit or miss history when it comes to big budget movies. WB adaptations of animated properties always look well crafted. They’re films don’t come off as cheap. Even if the script for He-Man turned out to be garbage, at least it would be visually appealing garbage. I’m on the fence about this.
What do you think about Sony picking up He-Man and the Masters of the Universe?
