Rob Liefeld is the creator of the Marvel character Deadpool, so it’s only right that he’d give us the latest news on the live action film. Via his Twitter account, he recently gave some updates on the film’s status and revealed whether or not Ryan Reynolds is still attached to star. Liefeld attended a meeting with several major X-Men producers including the ever vocal, Lauren Shuler Donner, so this had to be a big deal. If his tweets are legit, not only will Deadpool be an amazing spin-off, but Cable may get a solo deal too.
Here are the highlights from Liefeld’s Twitter page regarding his meeting with the Deadpool producers.
- “Great Deadpool movie meeting! Lauren Schuler Donner and her team are headed in the right direction!”
- “Deadpool movie checklist- DP in costume-check! Breaking 4th wall-check!Loads of killing-double check! Deadpool movie- YES!”
- “Ryan Reynolds is on board!!!”
- “Also excited to discuss possibilities of Cable in future X-films!!!”
Should we take his obvious excitement as a good sign? For a minute, it sounded as if Deadpool would be taking a backseat to Green Lantern after Reynolds took on the lead role in the film. I would rather have him play one superhero over the other, preferably the one with Katana swords.
As for Cable, he’s had so many incarnations it’s ridiculous. His first appearance was in The New Mutants comic series, and his most well known identity is of Nathan Summers aka Nathan Winters the aged son of Jean Grey and Scott Summers. Cable has some serious issues, and is a definite badass, but I don’t want Fox to produce a film based on his character. I don’t think they could represent him properly. The portrayal of Wolverine is a testament to that.
What do you think about the latest updates for Deadpool?
