Bryan Singer just knocked someone out of the director’s chair and I think it was D.J Caruso. According to THR, Singer has signed on to direct Jack the Giant Killer. Back in January it was reported that the Eagle Eye director would helm the project for New Line Cinema. Somewhere along the line the studio must have changed their mind, because that is no longer the case.
Jack the Giant Killer will be a joint effort between New Line and Legendary Pictures, so it doesn’t come as a surprise to me that Singer was chosen to direct. Singer has an established professional relationship with both companies.
According to the trade, the film centers on the events that occur after a princess is kidnapped. The missing girl causes a rift in the longstanding peace between humans and giants, and “a young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giants’ kingdom in hopes of rescuing her.”
No production date has been set for Jack the Giant Killer but it’s being fast tracked by the studio, and their confident it will be Singer’s next feature.
New Line sounds a little cocky here. The last time I checked Singer was signed on to direct Battlestar Galactica and Excalibur, and both of those films have serious fan bases to please. When it comes down to priority, those two should be done first, and then Jack and the Giant Killer. Don’t you agree?
What do you think about Bryan Singer taking on Jack the Giant Killer?
