The standard release date for the sequel Tron: Legacy has already been set for December 17th, 2010, but what about IMAX? According to THR, the giant screen exhibitor announced today that it will release Walt Disney’s 3D adventure pic Tron: Legacy day-and-date with its wider theatrical release also on December 17, 2010.
The new film will be digitally remastered to accommodate the IMAX screens, so you will get the full 3-D visual and audio effect. Here’s what Mark Zoradi, president of the Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Group had to say about the decision.
“This is an ideal movie for IMAX’s immersive format,” Tron: Legacy already packs a punch in Disney Digital 3D, and to give audiences the option to experience the enhanced premium IMAX 3D version is a real treat. We’re particularly excited to reach a much wider audience now that the IMAX network is expanding with its digital locations.”
After seeing some of the footage on a regular screen at Comic-Con I can only imagine how great it will look in IMAX 3-D. It’s interesting how a lot of people seem shocked about this announcement. This was a business move based on common sense. Disney already has so many 3-D films scheduled for IMAX release next year, it’s only natural that they would add Tron.
Do you plan on seeing Tron Legacy in IMAX or conventional theaters?
