The one good thing that always comes out of film festivals is major distribution from a studio. With the Toronto International Film Festival being one of the biggest events of the year it’s no surprise that thanks to its exposure an independent dramedy got picked up. According to Variety, Sony Pictures has swooped in and bought the rights to the Peter Stebbings film, Defendor.
Defendor stars Woody Harrelson as the title character Arthur, a man who lives a double life as a makeshift hero. The film co-stars Kat Denning’s from Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist as his prostitute friend, Sandra Oh as his therapist, and Elias Koteas as an all around bad guy. If you haven’t been exposed to the off the wall antics of this film here’s the link to the official trailer. We’ve also posted several production photos you can view.
The specifics of Sony’s deal appears pretty straight forward. They have acquired the distribution rights for the film in the U.S. and most of the foreign territories. So far, plans for the U.S. release date have not been set. I hope they get it together some time soon, because I cant wait to get an opportunity to see this film. By looking at the trailer you can tell there are some great comedic moments in it, but the darker, emotional scenes have caught my eye.
Would you go see Defendor in theaters?
