Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides
By Krystal Clark
At the Disney D23 Expo, some new info has been revealed regarding the upcoming fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The studio recently announced the new film’s subtitle as, On Stranger Tides. Pirates is scheduled for release during the summer of 2011, and will feature the return of Captain Jack as played by Johnny Depp. The new title isn’t as catchy as At World’s End, but it will do.
Production on Pirates 4: On Stranger Tides is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2010 around April or May. At the moment they haven’t confirmed a director for the feature even though earlier reports had Chicago helmer Rob Marshall up for the job. Since Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom won’t be reprising their roles for the fourth film, Disney is considering On Stranger Tides the first installment of a new trilogy.
As a die hard Johnny Depp fan this is great news, but can Jack Sparrow cover another trilogy? Is there enough material for him? He is an entertaining and interesting character, but this sounds a bit like over kill. Here’s to hoping everything works out.
What do you think of Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides? Do you think they should start a new trilogy?

If Disney is smart they will be adapting Tim Powers' book of the same name "On Stranger Tides", a far better yarn, in my opinion, than the first trilogy. I recommend it to anyone – lots of fun. And, Tim Powers book was inspired by the Disney ride to boot.

"On Stranger Tides" is a book by Tim Powers, published in 1988. That's all about Blackbeard, pirates and voodoo and was the main source of inspiration to LucasArts' "Monkey Island" adventure game series back from 1991, which itself also borrows inspiration from the original PotC ride as well. It makes for an intriguing triangle of relationships, and also makes the possible direction that Disney are taking this all the more interesting.

ABSOLUTELY YES!!! Can't wait for the next movie. You can never get enough of Captain Jack Sparrow and his adventures. He's a fantastic character and my twin boys love him. Excellent work Disney!

I totally agree with " Is there enough material for him? He is an entertaining and interesting character, but this sounds a bit like over kill." because I love the character of jack, and I don't want it to mess up
oou but I'm excited for this movie! =] maybe we'll learn more about jack's past …

HOW COULD YOU SAY THAT!?!?

If you want to learn more about Jack's past you can read the two series of books written about him. They describe his early years and all his exploits until he is mutinied on and left on the rumsmugglers' island. The only unknown part of his life is that 9-10 year gap between that moment and the first movie. So check out "Pirates of the Caribbean: Jack Sparrow" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Legends of the Brethren Court" if you can't wait till 2011 to find out more:D

If the orig cast is not in it, it is not a Pirates movie!! If the three some of Jack/Elizabeth/Will are not in the mix I don't know if I want to see it.

In my opinion, it's actually a good thing that Keira's and Orlando's characters don't return. We got enough closure for them in At World's End. As long as good ol' Deppy is back as Jack Sparrow and Geofrey Rush returns as Barbossa, I'll be happy. Plus I hear that they're gonna have Blackbeard as one of the main characters, so it'll be interesting to know who plays him.

I THINK KEIRA & ORLANDO SHOULD BE IN THE 4 TH ONE BEAUSE I WOLUD LIKE TO SEE WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN I CAN WAIT TO SEE IT IT WILL NOT BE THE SAME WITHOUT THEM IN IT I THINK X

I do hope that some of the storytelling from the Tim Powers book makes it into the movie. That is a damned fine pirate story!

I watch Pirates all of the time..it is the movie I go to bed by…I am an adult and need the adventure..it keeps me feeling young. (Yes, I have a boyfriend and he is supportive of my pirates addiction..lol)
I am truly glad to see Keira and Orlando go…I love their characters but the story must go on and the ending of three clearly leaves the story open for more action and adventure. I do think, though, that bringing back Keira and Orlando for a cameo would not be a bad idea but for movie five or six…I felt Keira's character was played up too strongly and was hoping that Captain Sao Feng would have been alive a bit longer. Here is to Pirates four, five, six, and any others Disney would like to make. I am ALL for it…and if they film in Hermosa beach again, I strongly urge people to go down and take a look at the real Black Pearl…it was awesome to watch the filming and see the ship that is the key to all pirate movies!!!!

hey you cant get rid of Jack Sparrow he is the best character in the movie. What the new pirates should follow is Jack and Barbossa in the fountain of youth. I really dont mind there not being Orlando and Kiera but i dont think it would ruin the movie at all
