Viggo Mortensen Retires From Acting?
By Krystal Clark
The ridiculously talented Academy Award nominated actor Viggo Mortensen could be throwing in the towel with acting. According to Cinemablend, Mortensen recently did an interview with Men’s Journal and spoke about his future projects or lack there of. For the past ten years the actor’s career has been a critical success with no signs of stopping, but at this point he may want it to.
Even though there has been talk of Mortensen making an appearance in Guillermo del Toro‘s The Hobbit as his Lord of the Rings character Aragorn, he presses that currently he doesn’t have any film projects on the horizon.
“I have no plans to do another movie. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m open to seeing how I feel in a while, but right now I’m not saying yes to anything. My agent is like, ‘Well, if you don’t do anything, people will forget about you…’ I just feel like I’ve taken on too much for a while.”
It sounds as if someone is a bit worn out. Many actors find themselves at this crossroads when they’ve been steadily working for several years. Some people take it as a blessing, while others may find it hard to handle. It doesn’t sound like he’s not thankful for the work he’s had, but he needs a vacation. He has spoken in the past about the negative effects the excessive traveling has had on his health, and it might factor into why he feels so tired.
Give the guy a month on the beach of some tropical island, and he’ll be recharged and itching to star in another movie sooner than he thinks.
What do you think about Viggo Mortensen’s decision to step down from acting for a while?

I say "Take the vacation, Viggo. You deserve it!". He's the hardest working guy in showbusiness and he needs a break…..though I would be devastated if he quit acting altogether! I'm waiting for the industry to recognize the man for what he is… an amazingly talented (and underated) actor. Give him the much needed time off, but give him his due.

He has other interests that he wants to pursue. Two thoughts about his "retirement" I believe he used his acting talents to get his publishing company up and going and has not had the time to work on his love of both art and photography. Also, working as hard as he has over the last years has probably caused him to lose out on the ability to find happiness in his personal life, maybe he found someone he wants to settle down with and has chosen to do so in order o concentrate on that side of his life for a change.

Viggo never has been one to do movies just for the sake of doing movies. He only ever agrees to do one if it sounds great to him and if the role is also great and promises to stretch his talents. If there's nothing like that on the horizon, well, he has his other passions to pursue, and he is certainly not going to starve. I have to say I totally admire his attitude toward life and think most folks could take a lesson from it.

I dont want to see Viggo retire! but if a vacation is what he wants then its a good thing for him after all the years of solid acting he did to please us the fans!! I dont think Viggo will retire from acting totally though, acting is a passion you will walk away from it for so long, then you'll miss it and come back, no one will ever forget Viggo! as the character of Aragorn will always be in our hearts as the fans on the Lord of the rings! which is what millions? and I really hope Viggo is involved in someway in the hobbit if the chance to reprise will be there!

Taking a short break wouldn't hurt! Let Viggo spend some time with his family and when he thinks he's ready to get back into his career, he'll be better than ever.

Take a break Viggo, then do the Hobbit movies! His agent should be fired… money, money, money, thats all he sounds like he cares about.

Don't leave us for too long, Lord Aragorn; your presence in our lives would be sorely missed.

"He has other interests to pursue. caused him to lose out on the ability to find happiness in his personal life." ROFLMAO
Viggo has not retired. A new career he has carved out for himself. Film parts procurer for Ariadna Gil, a Spanish actress for whom he got a part in a Danish movie backed by the Danish Film Institute. The actress for whom he got the role of Katie in Appaloosa. When asked about their relationship, Viggo has stated they were just friends. The truth is coming out now. The two of them have been carrying on an affair for a couple years. He has not missed out on happiness in his personal life in the past nor in the present. Ariadna has left her husband and two children to be be with Viggo. Will he continue to use his 'A Lister' status to procure parts for his Spanish sweetie?
