Academy Award winning actress Halle Berry is in negotiations to star in the action thriller Dark Tide. According to Variety, the film will be directed by Clark Johnson from a screenplay by Amy Sorlie. If the name Clark Johnson sounds familiar, its because he’s the guy behind the 2003 big screen adaptation of S.W.A.T., which starred Samuel L. Jackson and Colin Farell. Not exactly the biggest vote of confidence is it?
Dark Tide will center on a diving instructor who returns to the deep after a near-fatal incident with a great white shark. The film will be produced by Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, who previously worked on last year’s Twilight. Dark Tide is set to begin filming later this year in South Africa.
This project doesn’t scream amazing to me. The story sounds very bland, and overused. How many shark movies have been produced in the last 30 years that have this exact same premise? Halle Berry is a good actress, but her recent film choices do nothing to show her range. The fact that the people behind this film had a part in Twilight and the S.W.A.T. remake terrifies me. Who knows what the final product will look like when it’s all said and done.
