Every now and again, established film directors like to helm commercials for major companies and their products. In this case Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X-Men: The Last Stand) moonlighted from his daily routine to direct Hugh Hefner in one of the many popular ads for the video game, Guitar Hero 5.
Some B-roll footage has popped up online showing Ratner behind the scenes, and directing like only he can…
I’m hoping that in the beginning of this video, Ratner isn’t in the middle of a conversation on his cell phone. Perhaps the girls were only doing a walk through for lighting purposes, because he looked annoyed when they finished the take. At one point it looked like he tapped a girl on the shoulder to ask her to back up, or move. There’s no audio so we’ll never know, but it’s fun to imagine.
Here is the finished product.
This commercial is actually pretty hilarious, especially the intro. I also like the false innocence that Hefner exudes with the statement, “What? I like variety.” The look on his face when he delivers that line gets me every time.
What do you think of Brett Ratner’s Guitar Hero 5 commercial?
