Official Confucius Trailer

A big surprise popped up online today in the form of a trailer for the upcoming biopic, Confucius. The film stars Chow Yun-Fat as the title character, and is directed by Hu Mei. Production and casting on the film first began back in March, yet somehow, only six months later there’s a trailer, locked and loaded for viewers to watch with what looks like a completed or nearly completed film.

The off part about this trailer is the dialogue. We all want to know one this, what Confucius says. And what does he say? Nothing! There’s no dialogue in the video, and although the music and actions tell you everything you need to know, I can’t help but find the trailer a bit ironic…

As you can see the visuals for this film are breathtaking. The trailer looks amazing, and I’m sure Chow Yun-Fat felt honored to star in this role. Confucius will screen this month in China to mark the 60th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and Confucius’ 2,560th birthday. I’m sure the film will be a cultural and critical phenomenon. There hasn’t been any word on when it will be released in the U.S., but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for any info on that.

If given proper consideration, this could be Yun-Fat’s Oscar piece. I think he is a much better actor than people give him credit for.
