30-days-of-night sequel gets a director

So, there will be a sequel to the horror film 30 Days of Night, and a new director to go along with it. The 2007 original was helmed by The Twilight Saga: Eclipse director David Slade, who’s not returning for obvious reasons, and neither are a few of the film’s original stars. According to Bloody Disgusting, one of the lead actors has decided not to reprise their role in the next film. Who could it be?

In David Slade’s absence Ben Ketai has been tapped to direct the upcoming sequel 30 Days of Night: Dark Days. He also co-wrote the film’s story along with Steve Niles. This follow up will feature the return of the lead female character Stella Oleson, but not the actress who portrayed her, Melissa George. The role will be recast, but the name of the new actress has yet to be released.

“In the sequel, Stella joins a group of vampire hunters in order to get revenge on Lilith – the vamp responsible for the attack on her Alaska town.”

Production on the film begins this October in Vancouver. I didn’t realize that the first 30 Days of Night was so amazing that it deserved or needed a “Part 2.” Either way, it’s happening so expect the film to hit theaters sometime in the near future.
