While going through speculation regarding the recent Disney-Marvel merger, I totally forgot one major thing. What about Universal Studios? I’m not talking about their films but the actual theme park, Marvel Super Hero Island at Universal’s Islands of Adventure to be exact! Will there be a major conflict of interest with Universal, Disney, and Marvel overlapping with one another?
Over at DeadlineHollywoodDaily, they’ve looked over the fine print between the already existing agreement between Marvel Entertainment and Universal Studios. According to their sources, everything will stay as is for the time being.
“Marvel Super Hero Island at Universal’s Islands of Adventure and the Marvel characters are an important part of the Universal Orlando experience. They will remain so. Our agreement with Marvel stands for as long as we follow the terms of our existing contract and for as long as we want there to be a Marvel Super Hero Island.”
The famous titles or characters being used on the island include Spider-Man (also attraction), Dr. Doom (also attraction), Hulk (also attraction), Storm (also attraction), Captain America, Cyclops, Green Goblin, Rogue, Storm, Wolverine, “and lots more if you include stores and dining,” according to a Universal executive.
I’m assuming that Disney will leave well enough alone in terms of the major agreements that Marvel has set in place such as this one. If their whole point of purchasing the comic book giant was to make more money, then they should let this one slide. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
Do you think Disney would remove all Marvel properties from Universal Studios?
