Paramount Confirms Shutter Island Release Date with Trailer

Leonardo DiCaprio for Shutter Island Stress2 Paramount Confirms Shutter Island Release Date with Trailer

Although we heard about them pushing back Martin Scorsese‘s Shutter Island, we just got an an official email from Paramount stating:

Paramount Pictures SHUTTER ISLAND originally scheduled for release on October 2, 2009 will now be released on February 19, 2010.

Let the rumors begin!

The change in the release date is very close to when the film was originally about to come out. As we heard a few days ago the reason for the change in date is due to lake of funds:

“Given where the DVD business is in 2009, our only hope is the economy and the retail business rebounds in 2010 because the hardest hit segment has been movies that play to an older adult audience.”

Maybe this is true, but it does seem crazy that someone like Scorsese would have issues getting a studio to back his film, when he has an all-star cast lead by Leonardo DiCaprio. If they were changing the date because they need to re-shoot something, they probably would have announced this at least a month ago.

Maybe they just decided that they don’t like the “O’s” in October?

We’ll have more for you as we gather more information.

In the meantime here is the new revised trailer with the correct release date on it…

Why do you think they changed the release date?

Rumor has it they changed the due date so they could put all their money behind "UP IN THE AIR", for an Oscar this year. Leonardo Dicaprio is a much better actor than George Clooney is and Scorsese can direct circles around Reitman. George Clooney and Brad Pitt are Oscar Committee favorites. That's why Brad Pitt is up for one every year-no matter how bad his movie is. Shutter Island is probably the best movie, however, they already know Clooney will win. This isn't fair when Leo is the better actor. Clooney already has two Oscars. At 51, the man needs to stay behind the camera and let others try to have one. You would think two would be enough, but I guess not.
