New Moon’s Alec Volturi Revealed

Over at MTV a New Moon exclusive has been released. They’ve posted a photo and detailed character description of Alec Volturi. He’s the twin brother of Dakota Fanning‘s Jane Volturi, and is portrayed by Cameron Bright. The second installment of The Twilight Saga will be laced with plenty of melodramatic angst, and the Volturi clan will be at the center of it all.

Here is a brief description of Alec and how he and Jane became a part of the Volturi clan.

Alec is a high ranking member of the Volturi Guard. The Volturi were waiting to change Alec and his twin sister Jane until they were older, but humans tried to burn them at the stake, so the Volturi were forced to “change” them while they were young. Since acquiring Alec and Jane, the Volturi have seldom needed to fight – their victims are simply slaughtered.

Similar to the Cullens in America, the Volturi have been around for a long time. Their interactions with humans is forced, but polite. Director Chris Weitz gave some insight into the Volturi’s background and what makes them different from other vampires.

‘They’ve been around for 2,000 years. How would they interact with one another?’ The conclusion was that after 2,000 years you’d probably be more than mildly insane. No matter how cultured or gracious you appear on the surface.”

The Cullen’s with their pale skin, and the Volturi and their blood shot eyes. They really are a stark contrast to one another. New Moon hits theaters on November 20th.
