Third XXX Movie Gets a Director

The second XXX sequel is moving forward as scheduled. Earlier we reported that Vin Diesel planned on reprising his role as extreme sportsman Xander Cage in the follow up to Ice Cube’s stint in 2005’s XXX: State of the Union. According to Yahoo, the actor will be joined by a new director to helm the feature, which will be amply titled XXX: The Return of Xander Cage. More on the film below.
The original XXX film debuted in 2002 and was a big hit for Diesel and director Rob Cohen. This time around the actor will work with cinematographer-turned-director Ericson Core. Back in June, Cohen was set to rejoin Diesel for the film, but opted to start work on the feature Medieval instead. The script for The Return of Xander Cage was written by Terminator Salvation scribes John Brancato and Michael Ferris. The story will center on “Cage’s return to the National Security Agency after an eight year absence.”
Are they serious? The entire film will be based off of Cage’s return? Some sequels have “return” in the title, but don’t necessarily focus entirely on that theme. Batman Returns had a lot of other stuff going on that didn’t just center on his return three years after the first Batman. What is going on here? The fact that the Terminator 4 writers penned the script does not help the situation either. I understand that Diesel is trying to recapture his former glory but come on.
