The breakout star from this summer’s The Hangover has landed a role in Steve Carell‘s new movie. According to THR, Zach Galifianakis is in negotiations to join the cast of the upcoming comedy Dinner for Schmucks. It’s produced by Paramount and will be directed by Jay Roach. Find out more on the cast and the film below.
As we previously reported Dinner for Schmucks is an American adaptation of the 1998 French film Le diner de cons (The Dinner Game), which was written and directed by Francis Veber. Schmucks co-stars Paul Rudd and Lucy Punch, and will center on a wealthy man and his friends who have a weekly competition where they attend a dinner party and bring the dumbest person they kind find as their guest. The newer version shares that similar plot.
Galifianakis is set to play an assistant manager of a mattress store who is dating Carell’s ex-wife. The film is set to begin production this fall, and is scheduled for a July 2010 release. I was pretty sure that he would play one of the “village idiots” who come to the weekly dinner parties. Zach plays dumb very well, and not in a slapstick way. He really acts as if he’s completely spaced out. What a talent to have.
