Karl Urban Cast as Priest Villain
By Krystal Clark
New Zealand actor and Star Trek alum Karl Urban has landed another gig. According to THR, the actor has been cast in the Scott Stewart adaptation of Priest. He will star as the bad guy opposite Paul Bettany and Cam Gigandet. This news comes pretty late in the game considering production on the film starts next week! More on Priest below.
Urban will portray Black Hat, “the evil leader of the bloodsuckers who was once a priest and hunter but now fancies himself a god of vampires.” The story of the film will center on “a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampire and follows a warrior priest who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece.” Maggie Q was also recently cast as a priestess who’s described as “a vampire hunter as tough as the priests.”
For the most part I’m a fan of everyone involved, and I’m interested in seeing them all work together. I’ve always liked Bettany and I’m really happy to see him take on more leading roles. Urban has been around for a while now, and thanks to his recent stint in Star Trek he’s getting some much deserved recognition.
What do you think of Karl Urban being cast as the villain in Priest?

Karl Urban was the only good thing in the film. Karl Urban would be the only reason to see Priest. Paul Bettany literally did not change roles compared with Legion.
Priest was originally the story of a Priest who sold his soul for the ability to fight against 12 fallen angels in vengeance for his wife's murder – there were no vampires involved. This is just a movie called Priest with no relation to the series at all.
Lots of plotholes: Supposedly a pure western they somehow were able to fit a "1984" society into the film, "Priest" had trouble fighting one of the vamp guards, and why so many one-on-one battles with an "army of vamps"?.There was so much wrong with the film I just could not suspend my disbelief.I can honestly say that Karl Urban's performance would be the only thing to save the film if anything could.
