Who will play Bilbo Baggins in the big screen adaptation of The Hobbit? There have been rumors circulating that Daniel Radcliffe, James McAvoy, and David Tennant are the top contenders to star as the hairy little man. However, one of them has formally bowed out of that race; Radcliffe told the LATimes that he has not been approached for the role, nor is he interested in it. Read what he had to say below.
“I’d have to say, ‘Thanks but no thanks,’ not that anyone has asked me…Honestly, I don’t think they would want me anyway, it’s just too close. Whatever I do next, I don’t think there will be any wizards in it!”
If these are, in fact, the potential actors for the role of Bilbo Baggins, I think that Daniel Radcliffe could have worked. After all, he is fairly familiar with the fantasy genre, but the poor guy needs a chance to step out of the mystical realm and do something else.
The other good choice is James McAvoy. He seems like he would do the role justice. For some reason, David Tennant strikes me as a tad too old for the part. One thing is for sure, Daniel really doesn’t want to be type-cast in fantasy roles forever, even if it does involve Peter Jackson.
What do you think? Who do you think should star in the role of The Hobbit?
