Napoleon Dynamite actor Jon Heder is stepping into the comic book world with his next feature. According to Variety, Heder will star in the live action adaptation of Buddy Holly Is Alive and Well on Ganymede. Yes, the title sounds a bit much but if anyone can pull it off he can. The film will be directed by Robert Rugan from the sci-fi comic written by Bradley Denton.
More on Buddy Holly after the jump…
The story of the film follows a man named Oliver Vale. “He’s an average geek whose uneventful life changes when Buddy Holly turns up on every TV channel and declares that Vale is the only one who understands why this is happening — which causes Vale to be pursued by a mob of disguised aliens.” Not only will Rugan direct Buddy Holly, but he also adapted the scrennplay for the big screen. Heder will begin working on the film as soon as he gets time off from an untitled sitcom he’s currently working on.
I don’t know much about this comic, but it sure sounds out there. I think that both Heder and Rugan can handle this subject matter since they’ve both worked on films with questionable content before. Rugan’s feature debut was Alice’s Misadventures in Wonderland, which won the Grand Jury Award for Best Feature Film at the Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival. So, the film is in good hands.
What do you think about Jon Heder headlining this film? Is he the right choice?
