Must AMC have all the great programming? They are becoming a serious force in series television, with no signs of slowing down. This latest news just proves the network is on the up and up. According to Collider, Frank Darabont (Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) will adapt the zombie comic The Walking Dead into a series for the thriving cable channel.
It turns out that years ago, Darabont developed the zombie series for NBC, but after a “healthy bidding war” nothing ever came of it. The project is based off of Robert Kirkman’s 63-issue comic, which was first published by Image back in 2003.
“The Walking Dead” chronicles the issues faced by a group of survivors of a zombie apocalypse. Led by police officer Rick Grimes, the group struggles with interpersonal conflicts even as they face the omnipresent threat of further zombie atrocities.”
Like many of you, I too am confused as to why AMC would place zombies in the midst of their award winning Mad Men and Breaking Bad. According to one of the senior VP’s of the network, “It allows us to stay where we want to stay: in the world of smart, sophisticated storytelling.” That’s a broad statement, but going off of their current series roster, they may be on to something.
Will you watch The Walking Dead on AMC?
