We all know Hugh Jackman is more than just a pretty face, he’s a song and dance man too! As we previously reported 20th Century Fox is looking to bring the story of entrepreneur P.T. Barnum to the big screen, and Jackman’s the man to do it. According to Variety, the Australian actor is attached to play the showman in the upcoming film entitled, The Greatest Show on Earth.

The Greatest Show on Earth will be a contemporary musical, written by Jenny Bicks, the woman who brought us Sex and the City. Conveniently, Jackman’s own production company Seed Productions will co-produce the film along with his partner John Palermo. Barnum and Bailey’s Greatest Show on Earth is a phrase recognized by generations from yesterday and today. Barnum was as shopkeeper who entered the circus business at the ripe old age of 61. His first show was entitled “P. T. Barnum’s Grand Traveling Museum, Menagerie, Caravan & Hippodrome”. This planted the seeds for the epic circus that would become world renown in the future.

The film’s score will be contemporary, and producers are actually looking at British artist Mika as a possible writer for the music. As for other casting, Anne Hathaway is the prime candidate to play the character of Jenny Lind, the so-called Swedish Nightingale. After this year’s Oscar performance we know these two can carry a tune together. I always knew Jackman could sing, but I had no idea that she had such range! At first this project was untitled, and now they’re calling it The Greatest Show on Earth, not to be confused with the Cecil B. DeMille film of the same name from the 1950′s.
