I dont know about you, but this is not Canada, It is a USA release. And they DID make an English subtitle version.So buy that.

We'll I don't know about Canada but your average 6 year old is not going to be able to read an entire feature length animated film (and we are talking animation here, not live action). If that's not a good reason to dub then I don't know what is. Wait I do know a couple others. We'll done dubbing does not take anything away from an animated film (unlike live action which will always suffer from dubbing). Just because a movie is not in it's native language does not mean it loses it's cultural significance. Lastly dubbing allows the viewer to take in the beautiful animation because they don't have to read every line of dialog.

I sympathize with that view in principle, but not in practice! My 5-year old loves "Spirited Away" and "Kiki's Delivery Service" and positively ADORES "Totoro", but she's not up to following subtitles yet. "Ponyo" is aimed at the younger end of the Ghibli audience, so there will be plenty of non-readers watching. To their credit, after being hounded by fans, Disney released "Spirited Away" on DVD with the Japanese soundtrack and subtitles as an option, so there is a chance to enjoy Ghibli releases both ways. Interestingly, in Japan most Western movies are released with subtitles rather than dubbing, except for children's movies. Makes sense, really.

Don't understand why they have to change their voice into english (sounds so stupid and not original).
cant they just add subtitle. Don't know about the USA, but Canada is a multicultural country, should Canada respects Japanese culture and language and then use Eng sub instead? Doesn't Canada want their children grow up to be more world-wise??? I want my kids grow up to know there are many countries in other languages other than just english spoken.
