Who said Sam Worthington was just an action star? The Terminator Salvation actor has just signed on to star in a slick spy thriller. I’ll admit, it may not be all smooth sailing, but it’s not as epic as his previous work. According to THR, the actor will star alongside Oscar winner Charlize Theron in the remake of the 2005 French film The Tourist. The film will be directed by Bharat Nalluri.

The Tourist will tell the story of “an American tourist manipulated by a female Interpol agent in Europe.” The film will be produced through Spyglass Entertainment, with a screenplay written by Julian Fellowes and Jeffrey Nachmanoff. Word on the street is that Tom Cruise was eyeing the project for a while, before moving on to an “untilted James Mangold project.” One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Worthington recently signed on to star in The Candidate, while Theron is attached to star in Florence of Arabia.

It sounds like we’ll have another opportunity to hear Sam Worthington try to hammer out an American accent!

What do you think of the Theron-Worthington combo for The Tourist?
