This is the reunion I’ve been waiting for. Producer Sam Raimi has re-teamed with star Lucy Lawless (Xena: The Warrior Princess) for an epic new series called Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Spartacus is a new drama that will appear on the cable network, Starz. That means no restrictions on language, violence, or nudity, think HBO’s Rome.
Check out the gruesome and graphic trailer after the jump!
Via the Starz website, here is a short description of Spartacus: Blood and Sand.
Betrayed by his country. Beaten into slavery. Reborn as a warrior. “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” is a graphic and visceral account of Rome’s most famous gladiator. When he’s separated from the love of his life, Spartacus is forced into the gruesome and bloodthirsty arena, where a grisly death is primetime entertainment. Spartacus must fight for survival, befriend his enemies and play politics in this new world of corruption, violence, sex and fame. He’ll be seduced by power and tormented by vengeance. But his passion will give him the strength to prevail over every obstacle, in this modern and uninhibited tale of death, honor and endurance.
Yep, that looks pretty graphic. I mean, I thought Rome and The Tudors were pushing the sexual envelope. They’re really going for it here! Am I the only one who remembers the made for TV movie Spartacus that was featured on the USA Network? Nothing against the actor here (Andy Whitfield), but I thought Gorin Visnjic did a great job! Spartacus: Blood and Sand is set to premiere in January 2010.
What do you think of the trailer for Spartacus: Blood and Sand? Will you watch the show?
