Billy Crudup is set to star in Eat, Pray, Love, opposite Julia Roberts, Javier Bardem and Richard Jenkins, reports Variety. Ryan Murphy will be at the helm of this film, which was originally taken from Elizabeth Gilbert’s bestselling memoir about an unhappy woman who embarks on a journey of self-discovery around the world. Crudup will play Gilbert’s (Roberts) husband Steven, who hopes to have children, but is later abandoned by his wife.

Crudup recently starred in Michael Mann‘s Public Enemies and Zack Snyder‘s Watchmen. His role as Steven sounds a lot less active and a lot more mellow. It will be nice to see the actor in another light after so much action– I’m sure he will do an amazing job next to Roberts, who we all know can do a great job as an adventurous woman.

The film will start shooting next week and is set for a 2011 release date.
