The Academy Award winning actress will wear many hats with her upcoming project entitled, Florence of Arabia. According to Latino Review, Charlize Theron will produce, develop, and star in the film, which is based off of the Christopher Buckley novel of the same name. Theron owns the screen rights to the book and will produce the film via her company Denver and Delilah Films.

The screenplay for Florence of Arabia will be adapted by Dean Craig, who wrote the 2007 film Death at a Funeral. The story of the novel centers on a woman named Florence, who is the Deputy to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs. Her best friend marries an affluent man from a (fictional) middle eastern country and is beheaded when she gets drunk and takes his car out for a joy ride. From this one terrifying act, Florence unintentionally becomes a crusader for the rights of women in the Middle East and beyond.

The Florence of Arabia book is satirical in nature, and the film will follow suit. I just don’t know if this is something that will clearly be on my radar as a “must see.” I need to get a glimpse of a trailer or a photo, because this just sounds depressing.

What do you think of Charlize’s take on Florence of Arabia?
